1. Q. Is this true customization or a "cut and paste" process?

A. This is true customization! Other publishing companies can sandwich black & white copies of their existing laboratory manuals and renumber the pages.Brooks/Cole/Access Learning Systems provides you with true customization where we renumber the pages, graphics and tables. We can also combine the content of different labs and delete materials you don't need. At the present time, only the Shelp labs offer true customization.

2. Q. How much do I need to know about computers to use this service?

A. No computer skills are necessary. It is like ordering a new car. You select the options you want and we build the product (Laboratory manual) to your specification.

3. Q. How can I order a sample Customized Biology Laboratory Manual for review?

A. There are two ways:

bullet  Go to http://www.biolabmanual.com/avail.html and review the 50 labs online. Then select "Order a Sample Customized Biology Laboratory Manual" and review the labs listed. Then go to the Order Form and indicate the labs you would like by numbering them as you want them to appear in your manual. Follow the instructions on how to send the list to Brooks/Cole/and Access Learning Systems Custom Publishing. Call (800) 590-9951, X371 if you have questions
bullet  Contact your local Brooks/Cole/Access Learning Systems Custom Publishing representative or call (800) 355-9983. They will provide you with Proof Sheets of the Shelp labs and information on how to place an order. If you plan to include Perry & Morton labs, you will need to order your sample Customized Biology Laboratory Manual through your local representative or the toll-free number listed above.

4. Q. Do you provide an Instructors' Guide?

A. Yes, a Customized Instructor Guide is provided with your student Customized Biology Laboratory Manual. Each unit in the Instructor Guide has 3 sections: 1) List of needed equipment and supplies. 2) Answers to the exercise questions. 3) Answers to the questions at the end of the unit.

5. Q. Can I get a Customized Biology Laboratory Manual with color?

A. Yes and No. At the present time, the printed manual is black and white. The CD version is in color.

6. Q. If I have a Customized Biology Laboratory Manual, do I have to use Brooks/Cole textbooks?

A. No, but the Starr books are excellent and the vocabulary match is good. Shelp used the Starr texts during the authoring and beta testing stages of development.

7. Q. If I select labs for a customized manual and then later find I would like to make changes, can I do so?

A. Yes, we keep your selections in an electronic file, and you can request changes before the next printing.

8. Q. Can I use both Shelp and Perry & Morton labs in the same manual?

A. Yes, and it looks good. You can combine or delete sections and renumber the pages of  the Shelp labs. The Perry & Morton labs must be used as is without changes.

9. Q. If I use some of my own unpublished  labs, do I get paid a royalty?

A. No, but you do retain copyright of your materials. It would be a good way to gradually write your own manual. Start by including a couple of your own labs and add to it each year until you have your own manual. You may use Brooks/Cole graphics if we retain all printing rights.
