Unit Overview

This unit introduces students to basic genetics. Students familiarize themselves with the history of the study of genetics and become acquainted with the concepts related to inheritance of traits in nine exercises. Punnett squares are used to teach predicted genetic outcomes of monohybrid and dihybrid crossses. Students become aware of predicted and actual outcomes. The relationship between percentages and ratios is explored. Questions following each exercise allow students think critically about biological topics. At the end of the unit, there are additional questions to review the most important points of the unit.
