Unit
Overview
This unit introduces students to basic genetics. Students familiarize
themselves with the history of the study of genetics and become acquainted
with the concepts related to inheritance of traits in nine exercises.
Punnett squares are used to teach predicted genetic outcomes of monohybrid
and dihybrid crossses. Students become aware of predicted and actual
outcomes. The relationship between percentages and ratios is explored.
Questions following each exercise allow students think critically about
biological topics. At the end of the unit, there are additional questions
to review the most important points of the unit.
